Ardencote Manor Hotel in Claverdon makes a great wedding venue. Located in the Warwickshire countryside, it’s a hotel / golf course / spa set in beautifully landscaped grounds. The Manor House is just one of two venues for weddings at Ardencote - the second is The Lakeside, an outdoor option with a waterside pavilion. Ross and Annette chose the more traditional (and less weather-dependent) Manor House for their civil wedding ceremony.
I hadn’t shot a wedding at Ardencote before, so I arranged to meet Ross and Annette when they went there for their menu tasting. (My wedding photography prices include a meeting with the couple and even for venues I’ve shot before, it’s always great to be able to meet them at the actual venue to talk about what they like about the place and what settings will work especially well for them personally). This meeting paid dividends as it meant I could approach the day with a bag of ideas as to which areas in the lovely gardens would make good locations for their couple’s portaits.
For the remainder of the celebrations, Annette and Ross simply wanted a record of the day, which gave me plenty of free rein to capture the day’s events in a candid, documentary style. This relaxed, informal approach means it’s much less about posing guests or setting up elaborate lights, etc, and much more about me being in the right places at the right times to catch natural reactions and genuine emotions. Personally, I like the authenticity of photographs taken this way. It’s not to everyone’s taste, and some object to the idea that people who aren’t aware of the camera don’t get the chance to present their ‘best side’, but I disagree - as far as I’m concerned, happiness and laughter look good on anyone!
This was a lovely wedding and I really enjoyed shooting at Ardencote. It was a pleasure to work with such a laidback, easygoing couple and I wish Ross and Annette a long and happy future together.
If you’re booked to get married at Ardencote, or are considering it as your wedding venue, and are looking for a Warwickshire-based wedding photographer, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Both the Manor House and The Lakeside make wonderful settings for your ceremony and the beautiful gardens and grounds offer many great options for group, couples, and individual portraits. I still have some slots available for the remainder of 2019 (particularly for weekday weddings), and if you book now for a 2020 wedding you can lock in the cost at this year’s prices.
