Personal branding photography is a relatively new term. It could also be thought of as business portrait photography, or environmental portrait photography (as it tends to show more of a person’s working environment). Whatever term you use, it usually describes a mix of professional portraits and detail shots that combine to reflect and reinforce your brand’s identity. For a small organisation, where you are literally the face of your business, this type of photography can be vital in letting customers know what your brand is all about. Within a larger organisation, this type of imagery is often used in internal communications and news updates.
Environmental portraits can be excellent promotional tools to help establish your business and brand, as they can show you at work or ready to meet your next client. Maybe you are a yoga teacher, looking to promote your new class - a series of shots of you in various poses in your studio will get the message across far better than a headshot and a chunk of text. The same goes for musicians, artists, singers, performers, bakers, carpenters, even café owners and shopkeepers - in fact, anybody who needs a quality set of photographs to help present themselves as a professional. A portrait or two also makes a perfect addition to an About Me page on your business website, perhaps showing your more relaxed side.

Not sure whether you need a headshot or a personal branding portrait?
Many customers will need a mix - a headshot to show their face, and a set of environmental portrait images demonstrating them in action. Or sometimes it’s not quite that straightforward and you’ll need an image that is more than a headshot, but not quite a portrait. Don’t worry - we can work out exactly what’s going to work best for you. And if you can’t decide, it’s no problem to capture both types of images in one session - all my lights, backgrounds, and other equipment is fully portable, so it’s easy to move everything around to create different looks. Even an outdoor shoot is no problem if you’re looking to highlight a natural or urban background.
